The first year of Donald Trump's return to the US presidency has accelerated an ongoing transformation: the disintegration of US-led neoliberal globalisation. From the 1990s through the post-2008 period, global capitalism was organised through a structured hierarchy, with US financial dominance, global value chains, and multilateral institutions that secured the conditions for capital accumulation. That architecture is now visibly fraying.

Haqooq Khalq Party (Pakistan) held an International Anti-Imperialism Conference in Lahore on 3rd May. Some academics from US, Canada, UK participated. I chaired the first session and here is my contribution to the Conference.

The countries of the Arabic-speaking region experienced floods last winter (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Oman, Saudi Arabia). Six months later, the region is experiencing extreme temperatures: from 40° to 50° in the Maghreb and 50° and more in Iraq and the Arabian Peninsula, with an average of 35° in Gaza (meaning 50° in tents). Deaths due to the heatwave are estimated to be in the hundreds in Tunisia.

From July 16 to 19, 2026, the headquarters of the newspaper Almounadila socialiste hosted the first edition of “Socialist Days”, a space for political education, strategic reflection and activist exchanges dedicated to the deepening of the revolutionary socialist project.

Contemporary capitalism is shifting into a war conjuncture: as the world market fractures, rivalries among geo-economic powers intensify, often to the point of outright military confrontation, while militarization spills beyond the battlefield into political governance and everyday life. In this context, the historical necessity of renewing an internationalism becomes ever clearer, especially as local conditions are increasingly mediated by globalized processes and absorbed into the vortex of the global war regime.
