Trump and Netanyahu: mortal enemies of the peoples, in the Middle East and worldwide ! Hands off Iran!

Two days after striking Iran, on Tuesday 24 June, Trump announced with great fanfare that he imposed a ceasefire on Israël and Iran, claiming that his assault had destroyed the Iranian nuclear potential and opened the door to peace. The hours that followed showed the precariousness of this ceasefire and the limit of Trump’s power with his Israeli ally. In any case, Trump remains a warmonger and destructive force, in no way a force for peace.

By attacking and bombing Iran ten days after the Israeli attack, Trump plunged humanity into murderous violence, amplifying that already triggered by Netanyahu. Trump assumed the right to attack a sovereign country, its population, to injure and kill children and adults, for the sole affirmation of a military power pretending to strike whoever it wants, when and where it wants.

Netanyahu has had full support from Trump in his genocide of the Palestinian people, bombing Lebanon and Syria with impunity, pursuing the colonialist and supremacist policies of his government. The deliberate attack on Iran was aimed at strengthening the aggression of the Israeli state against all the peoples of the region – starting with the Palestinian people – accepted in silence by most of the Arab regimes and with assertive support from Western leaders.

The Israeli government wanted to scuttle all possibilities of a nuclear agreement with Iran, in the ongoing negotiations between Western countries, including the United States, and the Islamic Republic. The Israeli goal is to block the Iranian nuclear programme, which predates the Islamic Republic, to ensure that the Zionist state asserts itself as the dominant power in the Middle East and can alone retain the right to uranium enrichment and nuclear weapons.

Behind the nuclear issue, Netanyahu wants above all to have a free hand for his programme of annexation of the territories of Gaza and the West Bank and expulsion of the Palestinian populations, seeking to silence internal opposition to this criminal project as well as the active and growing popular mobilization throughout the world against the genocidal massacre.

The Trump administration also wants to reassert its military power, at a time when its economic supremacy is wavering, through its ability to strike anywhere and anytime, without being encumbered by a mandate from the UN, NATO or even the US Congress. For this administration that is leading its country into economic recession, through social attacks and budget cuts, war or the threat of war has become the ideological weapon to silence the people by imposing militarist policies. This is a new escalation and a threat for all the people all over the world. We need to stop him, by mobilization, inside the USA and all over the world. These intentions are as criminal as Netanyahu's.

Since the beginning of the dictatorship of the Islamic Republic, the Iranian people have sought on many occasions to mobilize for their social and democratic rights, recently including the "Women, Life, Freedom" movement. Israeli and American attacks worsened living conditions, caused hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries, contributing to the destruction of the economy and living conditions of the population, and hardening the regime's repressive policy. Striking the Evin prison is an attack on the political prisoners detained there, just like bombing on urban areas an attack again the population.

We stand firmly with the people of Iran both in their resistance to dictatorship and in their right to live free from foreign military aggression. The only ones who would have an interest in pushing for the destruction of the country and regime through war and bombing would be reactionary sectors, already in touch with Western regimes, among the Revolutionary Guards or the former monarchists, to replace it with a regime that is just as repressive and anti-democratic – but aligned with Western countries. Recent wars, such as those waged in Iraq or Afghanistan by the US and its allies, have always ended in humanitarian and political disasters.

The overthrow of the Islamic Republic will be the work of the Iranian people themselves, not of the military action of regimes that are just as dangerous for the people. The bombing of nuclear sites poses a risk of colossal damage to the population and the environment.
