“We should be clear that Putin took the decision to launch this invasion very seriously and is determined not to stop until he achieves his stated goals — the elimination of Ukraine as an independent nation-state and the imposition of a puppet government in Kyiv. If he does not achieve these goals, he will view it as a defeat, something he is not willing to accept.”

“The tensions and contradictions within the Democratic Party were fully on view on March 28 in New York City. On the one hand, President Joe Biden raised $25 million dollars, more than at any other single fundraising event in U.S. political history. Yet at the same time he was repeatedly interrupted by protestors chanting things like “blood on your hands,” referring to U.S. support for Israel's war against the Palestinians.”

In 1964 Herbert Marcuse asked in One-Dimensional Man whether it was still possible to ‘break the vicious circle of domination'. In other words, he questioned whether revolution was still possible in developed capitalist countries, where ‘the pure form of domination' had taken shape. The working class, now linked to the system of needs ‘but not to its negation',ii seemed bound to lose all its subversive capacity in the ‘affluent society [1]'. [2]

Daniel Bensaïd was without a doubt the most creative and innovative Marxist to come of age in the post-1968 period. Barely any other militant of his period had been able to weave deep theoretical intervention with illuminating aesthetic form in order to wage political struggle.

The union has a female face, and this idea is perfectly captured in the documentary by Magda Maria Malinowska, a Polish filmmaker, activist, and member of The Workers' Initiative (Inicjatywa Pracownicza) trade union. Her film The Women's Strike Continues, presented at this year's Filma Festival, weaves together two lines of history: the struggle of female care workers in Poznan and the Black protests against the abortion ban in Poland.

“At the same time, the growing worldwide indignation towards the genocidal massacre of Palestinians, including growing protest within the United States itself, is a further indication of the persistence of a significant potential, especially among the youth, in support of progressive causes, such as opposition to imperialist and colonial wars, to racism in all its forms, to gender oppression, to the continuous neoliberal dismantlement of all social gains achieved in the previous century, to capitalism itself.”

On March 22, one of the worst terrorist attacks in the history of modern Russia was carried out in Moscow Crocus City Hall: several armed men stormed the building and shot a crowd of civilians at point-blank. As of 4 p.m. March 23, Russian authorities reported that 133 people were killed and more than 100 wounded. We extend our condolences to all the victims and their loved ones — innocent civilians should not become targets of political violence.

“The pill, widely used by both single and married women, made it possible for women to plan their careers and their families and, yes, to have sex for pleasure when they wanted to. Working class, and poor women no longer had to have children that they couldn't afford and support or so many children that they would be overwhelmed with domestic labor and emotionally exhausted.“
