Solidarity with author and activist Andreas Malm

The Fourth International stands in solidarity with author and activist Andreas Malm who has been denied permission by the Labour government to enter the United Kingdom.

Malm is an Associate Professor at Lund University and internationally recognised scholar of climate change. He has regularly travelled to the United Kingdom in the past.

He was scheduled to participate in a public discussion in London on November 4 when his permission to travel was revoked on the vague grounds that his presence "may not be considered to be conducive to the public good".

We can only assume that the fact that he was due to speak alongside one of the co-founders of Palestine Action was the trigger for this repressive and illegitimate ban. The event was timed to take place at the start of the Supreme Court hearing against the ban.

We strongly refute the idea that Malm’s presence in London would be against the public good in the same way we reject the continued arrests of thousands of activists acting in solidarity with Palestine Action over recent months – including  325 arrested outside the US embassy in London on 31 October. The attempts of so many states to close down solidarity with the Palestinian people will not silence one of the most powerful movements of our age.

We call on everyone to urgently sign the statement calling for the travel ban to be reversed. 1

Solidarity with Andreas. Palestine will be free.
