No aggression against Syria

The World Congress of the Fourth International overwhelmingly approved this motion  (114 for 1 agaisnt) at the World Congress in February 2025.

1. The Fourth International greets the people of Syria and congratulates them on the overthrow of the Assad dictatorship. This epochal event was achieved thanks to the persistence of the Syrian people and their insistence on justice as well as tremendous sacrifices

2. We condemn in the strongest terms the incessant Israeli attacks against Syria and the expansionist policies that seek to occupy still greater parts of Syria and exploit the fragile situation to steal the land from its inhabitants. We reject that Israel can make any demands towards Syria and how it organizes its own security.

3. Only with the permanent support of the United States, much broader and very dangerous with Trump, is it possible for Israel to continue its aggression against its neighbors.

4. The attack - deliberately made during the National Dialogue conference - obviously seeks to undermine any hope for Syrian unity and in this way it's also an attack on all prospects of democratic development.

5. We remain critical towards the government of al-Sharaa, which has concentrated political power in its own hands, itself an action which threatens a pluralist and multicultural Syria.

6. Only the united Syrian people, organised democratically through their own organs of power - as was experienced with the Local Coordinating Committees - can guarantee a defense against the imperialist banditry.

7. All national minorities deserve full recognition and democratic rights. The imperialist vultures will try to ferment division and they will use any and all excuses to take further parts of Syria.

8. The Fourth International stands squarely with the Syrian people and its aspirations for democracy and justice. The cowardly attacks by Israel shows that the prospect of democracy in the Arab region continues to be the greatest threat to Zionism.
