Meeting of the Bureau of the International: organizing to act

The Executive Bureau of the Fourth International met in mid-July. Elected by the broad leadership of the International – the International Committee – immediately after the last congress in February, the Bureau organizes the concrete activity of the International.

It began with a discussion of the world situation, starting with Trump's offensive in the United States and his attempt to reorganize the world for the benefit of US imperialism. We therefore discussed the "No Kings" mobilizations, the struggle in solidarity with migrants, the disagreements within the US ruling class, customs duties and the economic situation, the attacks in the Middle East and Panama, but also the war in Ukraine, the battles against the far right in various countries (Brazil and Argentina in particular), the war between India and Pakistan, and the difficulties in building struggles. A statement was adopted specifically addressing the impacts of Trump's policies and the slogans we are promoting.

A significant amount of time was also devoted to the genocide in Palestine and resistance movements around the world. We discussed the building of the solidarity movement, including demonstrations, caravans to Gaza, and flotillas. We voted for a statement addressing these issues and the initiatives we want to contribute to, particularly with regard to the mobilizations around October 7 and the coordination of the movement.

This first Bureau meeting also devoted a significant amount of time to discussing the functioning of the International, the distribution of tasks and the responsibilities of the Bureau. We took stock of the educationalschools, in particular the recent Asian regional school, the youth school and the international school in Amsterdam, and we reviewed the coordination of our work in Latin America, Africa and Europe and the building of the International in these regions. We discussed preparations for COP 30 and for ecosocialist conference, which will take place in Belém in November 2025, the March 2026 antifascist conference and the coordination of our work on Palestine. A progress report was given on the preparations for the youth camp. We also discussed the campaign around the Manifesto for an Eco-Socialist Revolution adopted at the last congress and the work needed to translate it into other languages, popularize it, and make it a basis for discussion with other currents and activists.

A women-only meeting of the bureau addressed internal issues, including the problem of gender imbalance in the leadership, the need to promote women's voices, and the continental (meetings in Asia, Europe, and Latin America) and international (2027 seminar) actions we will organize regarding feminist work.

Finally, the bureau discussed the distribution of tasks among comrades, relations between the bureau and its secretariat, the work needed to rejuvenate our leading bodies, and the preparation of the next International Committee, which will take place in February 2026. An update was given on our press, including the work to launch the Brazilian version of Inprecor and the need to strengthen Punto de Vista Internacional.

This Bureau meeting was therefore an important moment in the life of the International, contributing to the organization of its political work and the building of militant campaigns and our organizations in the coming period.
